Using UPCS codes

How to Verify a UPCS Code Someone Sent You

Check a UPCS code you were given before you travel: look it up, confirm the country and position, and ask the sender if unsure.

A code is easy to copy wrongly, and a code can point somewhere the sender did not intend. A quick check protects you from a wasted trip.

    Steps

    1. Look up the code by pasting it into the search box on upcs.io, or open upcs.io/PK-1A2B-3C4D with the real code.
    2. Check the country on the lookup page. Does it match the country you expect?
    3. Use Open in Map and look at the position. See opening a code in the map.
    4. Compare the area with what the sender told you: street name, nearby landmarks, type of building.
    5. Zoom in to see which side of the building the cell is on.
    6. If it matches, continue with getting directions.

    If it does not match

    • Compare the code with the original message character by character.
    • Ask the sender to look the code up and describe the map to you.
    • Ask them for their normal address as well and check that against the map.
    • Read what to do when a code shows the wrong place.

    What a lookup cannot confirm

A code identifies a place. It does not prove who sent it or whether the place belongs to them, so use the same caution as with any address you receive from an unknown person, particularly before sending money or goods.

    Frequently asked questions

How do I know a code is genuine?

Look it up. The lookup page shows the country, coordinates and position on the map. If it does not match what you were told, ask the sender to confirm it.
