Using UPCS codes

How to Open a UPCS Code in the Map

Use Open in Map on the UPCS lookup page to see exactly where a code sits, zoom in and check the surroundings before you go.

Open in Map shows a code on a map so you can see the surroundings, not just the coordinates. It is the best way to confirm that a code really points where you think it does.

    Steps

    1. Look up the code by pasting it into the search box at upcs.io, or by visiting upcs.io/PK-1A2B-3C4D with the real code.
    2. On the lookup page, choose Open in Map.
    3. Look at the position the map shows for the code.
    4. Zoom in and move around to see nearby roads, buildings and entrances.

    What to look for

    • Right area. Is the town, street or neighbourhood the one you were told?
    • Right side of the building. A 3 m by 3 m cell can sit at the front, side or back. Compare it with the entrance you expect.
    • Nearby landmarks. Use any named places visible on the map to sanity check.

To see the 3 m by 3 m grid itself, zoom in on the UPCS map (the grid appears from zoom level 18).

    If something looks off

Ask the person who sent the code to check it. Checking you chose the right spot is written for people who create codes, and verifying a code someone sent you is for receivers.

    Next actions

You can also create a new code from the same map, as described in generating your first code.
