Using UPCS codes

Use UPCS Coordinates in Another App

Copy the latitude and longitude of a UPCS code and paste them into another tool, such as a mapping or note-taking application.

Not every tool understands UPCS codes, but most mapping tools understand latitude and longitude. Copying the coordinates lets you use the same location elsewhere.

    Steps

    1. Look up the code on upcs.io by pasting it into the search box or visiting upcs.io/PK-1A2B-3C4D with your code.
    2. On the lookup page, use the Copy coordinates action. The page also lists the latitude and longitude in full.
    3. Switch to the other application.
    4. Paste the coordinates into its search field, location field or notes.
    5. Compare the result with the position shown in UPCS to be sure it is the same place.

If you have not copied coordinates before, how to copy the coordinates of a UPCS code walks through the first step in detail.

    Good uses

    • Entering a destination into a navigation tool that has no UPCS support.
    • Giving a surveyor or contractor a precise point in the format they use.
    • Saving a precise location in your own records.

    Watch out for

    • Order of values. Latitude usually comes first, but some tools expect longitude first. Check how the tool reads them.
    • Separators. Some tools need a comma between the values, others a space.
    • Rounding. If you shorten the numbers, the point may move by more than a 3 m by 3 m cell.

When you can use UPCS directly

If the other person can use UPCS, a share link is simpler, and the map options on the lookup page may be all you need, such as Get Directions.

    Frequently asked questions

Why would I use coordinates instead of the code?

Some tools accept only latitude and longitude. The coordinates let you point those tools at the same place a UPCS code identifies.
