Plugins or Custom Integration: Which to Choose
Decide whether to use a ready-made UPCS plugin for WordPress, PrestaShop or OpenCart or build a custom integration with the embed map and REST API.

Use a plugin if your store runs on a platform UPCS supports. Build a custom integration if it does not, or if you need the map inside your own application rather than a standard checkout.
Ready-made plugins
UPCS provides three:
- WordPress / WooCommerce, which puts the map after the billing form and offers the
[upcs_map]shortcode. See install the WordPress plugin. - PrestaShop, which supports 1.7.7+ and 8.x. See install the PrestaShop module.
- OpenCart, for 4.x. See install the OpenCart extension.
Choose these when you want it working quickly with no code, and your needs match a normal checkout.
Custom integration
Choose this when:
- Your platform has no plugin, such as a custom-built site or another e-commerce system. UPCS has no plugin for Shopify, Wix, Squarespace, Joomla or Drupal.
- The map belongs inside your own app, booking form or admin tool.
- You need to resolve or look up codes from your server.
A custom integration uses the embeddable map and the REST endpoints. The quick start takes you through it.
Side by side
| Plugin | Custom | |
|---|---|---|
| Setup | Upload, add key | Write server and page code |
| Control over layout | Limited to plugin positions | Full |
| Platforms | WordPress, PrestaShop, OpenCart | Any |
| Key location | Plugin settings | Your server |
Both use the same API key and the same hourly request limit.
For Magento
There is no ready-made Magento extension. See UPCS and Magento.
