How to Share Your Location With Friends
Simple ways to send friends the exact place to meet or visit: choosing a point, sending a code or link, and making sure everyone arrives at the same spot.

The easiest way to share a location with friends is to choose the exact spot on a map and send either a link or a short code. Add a sentence describing what they will see on arrival, and they should be able to find you without calling.
Pick the right spot
Think about where people will actually meet. The pin on a venue's central point may be inside a large park or complex. Choose the entrance, the car park or the meeting bench rather than the building centre.
Choose a format
- A map link. One tap opens it in the friend's preferred map app. Good for quick meetups.
- A short code. Easier to say aloud, write on an invitation or save in a contact note. The receiver pastes it into a lookup.
- Coordinates. Universal but awkward to read. See coordinate-based addresses explained.
If you use a UPCS code, friends paste it in the search box at upcs.io or add it to the site address, such as upcs.io/PK-1A2B-3C4D, and see the place on a map with directions.
Add helpful context
A pin alone does not tell people which floor, which door or what the place looks like. A short message goes a long way:
- "Green door beside the bakery, ring the top bell."
- "Park entrance on the north side, near the fountain."
- "Parking is behind the building. Turn in at the blue sign."
Be sure everyone has the same point
In group chats, send the location once and pin it, so people do not use older messages with a different spot. If the plan changes, say so clearly and send the new point.
Respect privacy
If the place is your home, share it with people you trust, ideally in a private message rather than a large group. See privacy when sharing a precise location.
For events
For a party or a wedding, put the code on the invitation next to the written address. Guests can use whichever they prefer. See how to write a digital address in forms for formatting tips.
Compare with sharing for deliveries
Couriers need slightly different information, such as access notes and a phone number. That is covered in how to share your location with a courier.
Frequently asked questions
Is a code or a map link better for friends?
A link opens straight in a map, which is quickest. A code is useful when you need to say or write the place down. Many people send both.
