How to Share Your Location With a Courier
Help a delivery driver find the right door the first time. Steps for sharing an exact location code, adding notes and avoiding common mistakes.

To help a courier find you, give them your normal address plus a precise location they can open in a map. Add a short note about access, and make sure the pin is on the right spot before you send it.
Step by step
- Choose the right point. Where should the courier stop: the gate, the lobby door or the loading bay? Pick that spot, not the centre of the building.
- Get the code or link. Use the location tool you prefer to turn that point into a code or a link. With UPCS you open the map, choose the place and copy the code.
- Check the pin. Open it on a map and confirm it matches the entrance. See how to verify a digital address.
- Add access notes. Mention gate codes only if you are comfortable, bell names, floor, or opening hours.
- Send it where the courier will see it. Use the order's delivery notes, or a message through the platform.
What to write in the note
Keep it short and specific. For example:
- "Blue gate next to the pharmacy. Ring the bell marked Ahmed."
- "Second building from the road. Leave with the guard if I am out."
- "Use the side entrance on the east, the front is closed."
Mistakes to avoid
- Pin on the wrong side of a block. Always double-check, especially in dense streets.
- Sending only a code. The courier may need the street and the recipient's name for their system.
- Forgetting the phone number. Keep it reachable.
- Using the front door of a gated compound. Mark the gate where the vehicle can actually stop.
Think about privacy
A courier needs the point only for the delivery. If you would prefer not to share your door, use a collection point. See safety tips for sharing your home location.
For shops and platforms
If you run a shop and want customers to give you a precise point at checkout, the same idea applies at larger scale. See digital addresses for deliveries and digital addresses for businesses.
Frequently asked questions
Should I give the courier a code or a street address?
Give both. The street address is what systems and drivers expect, and the code tells them exactly where to stop.
