Sharing a Location With Service Providers
How to give plumbers, installers, taxi drivers and other service providers an exact place to arrive at, with the right level of detail and care.

When a plumber, electrician, installer, taxi driver or inspector is coming to your place, a precise location saves time for both of you. The goal is to give them enough to arrive correctly, and no more than they need.
Who counts as a service provider
Anyone who comes to a place, rather than receiving a parcel: tradespeople, technicians, home health visitors, cleaners, driving instructors, taxi and ride drivers, utility inspectors and surveyors. Each has a different way of working, but all of them gain from knowing the exact entrance.
What to share
- The postal address in the form the company has on file.
- A precise point as a code or a link, placed at the entrance they should use.
- Access information, such as the gate, bell or door colour.
- A contact number that will be answered on the day.
Where to put it
- Booking forms. Many companies have a notes or instructions field. Paste the code there. See how to write a digital address in forms.
- Confirmation messages. Reply to the confirmation with the location so it is in the same thread.
- Phone calls. Read the code out slowly in blocks. Ask the person to repeat it back.
Tips that save a wasted visit
- Check the pin before you send it. See how to verify a digital address.
- Mention if the vehicle must park elsewhere or if the building has a rear entrance.
- For large estates or apartment blocks, give the building and unit as well as the point.
- If the visit is recurring, save the location in the provider's notes so you do not need to repeat it.
Rides and taxis
For pick-ups, choose the spot where a vehicle can stop legally and safely, not necessarily your front door. A pin at the corner or gate gives the driver a place to wait. Confirm the point with the driver before they set off.
Be selective
Only share a precise home location with providers you have booked. If someone you did not expect asks for your exact location, confirm with the company by a channel you trust. See safety tips for sharing your home location.
