Digital Addresses for Businesses
How shops, clinics and service companies can use a precise location code so customers, suppliers and drivers always arrive at the correct entrance.

For a business, a digital address is a precise, shareable reference to the entrance customers, staff and suppliers should use. Publishing one next to your normal address reduces confusion and saves time on both sides.
Where it helps most
- Customer arrivals. Shops, clinics, restaurants and offices in large buildings or busy streets are easier to find when a pin marks the right door.
- Supplier deliveries. Goods-in entrances are often not the same as the customer entrance. A separate code for the loading bay avoids misdirected drivers.
- Multiple branches. One code per branch gives a consistent way to point to each site.
- Pop-ups and events. Temporary locations have no recognised address at all.
- Customer deliveries. If you deliver to customers, collecting a precise point at checkout reduces failed attempts. See digital addresses for deliveries.
Where to display it
Anywhere you already publish your address: the website contact page, the footer, email signatures, invoices, social profiles, and printed material. Put the code beside the written address, not instead of it.
Good practice
- Pin the customer entrance, not the building centre.
- Use separate codes for different entrances such as the loading bay or the staff car park.
- Test it. Ask a colleague to follow the code from outside the area and confirm it takes them to the right door. See how to verify a digital address.
- Keep it consistent. Use the same code on all channels.
- Update it when you move. An old code on a business listing or a printed flyer will mislead people.
Collecting customers' codes
Businesses that deliver can ask for a precise delivery point at checkout and store it with the order. Some e-commerce platforms have plugins to do this; UPCS provides plugins for WordPress and WooCommerce, PrestaShop and OpenCart, which you can find on the plugins page. Handle customers' locations carefully and see privacy when sharing a precise location.
What a business code is not
It is not an official postal code and does not change your registered address. It simply makes the location easier to find. See digital address vs postal address.
Frequently asked questions
Should a business replace its postal address with a digital address?
No. Keep the official postal address for legal, tax and postal purposes, and add a digital address as an extra line that shows the exact entrance.
