Saudi Arabia Postal Codes and Addressing Guide
How the Saudi National Address, five-digit postal code and short address work, and how a UPCS SA code can mark an exact delivery point.
Updated 14 October 2026 · 3 min read
Saudi Arabia has a structured national addressing system operated by Saudi Post (SPL). Rather than a single postal code alone, an address is identified by a building number, a street, a district, a city, a five-digit postal code and a four-digit additional number, plus a compact short address.
How the Saudi system works
The National Address was designed to give every building a unique, machine-readable reference. Its parts are:
- a four-digit building number,
- the street name,
- the district (neighbourhood) and city,
- a five-digit postal code,
- a four-digit additional number.
The postal code identifies a district-level delivery area, and the additional number narrows the address to a location within that area. Together, the building number, postal code and additional number are enough to identify a building, even when street names are written in different ways.
There is also a short address made of four letters followed by four digits, which stands in for the full set and is easy to share. See the postal code format page for how each part is written.
How addresses are written
Addresses can be written in Arabic or English. The order generally goes building number, street, district, city, postal code and additional number. Many shops accept either the short address or the full set of fields. Details are on the Saudi address format page.
How UPCS codes work in Saudi Arabia
UPCS codes for Saudi Arabia use the prefix SA and the pattern SA-XXXX-XXXX, where each X is a letter or digit. Each code stands for a 3 m by 3 m cell on the map. It can mark the exact entrance, gate or loading point of a building.
A UPCS code is not an official postal code and not a National Address component. It is not issued by Saudi Post or any authority, and it does not replace the official address. It is a complementary exact-location code that can be added next to it.
Why it matters for deliveries
Couriers, banks and government services in Saudi Arabia widely ask for the National Address or short address, so having it ready avoids delays. For online shops, accepting both the full fields and the short address makes checkout easier for customers.
