Turkey Postal Codes and Addressing Guide
How Turkish posta kodu and addresses work, from neighbourhood and street to door number, and how a UPCS TR code marks an exact location.

Turkey has a nationwide postal system operated by PTT, the national postal service, and every address can be assigned a five-digit postal code (posta kodu). Day-to-day, however, Turkish addresses rely heavily on the neighbourhood (mahalle), street and building number, with the postal code added at the end.
How the Turkish postal system works
The posta kodu has five digits, and its first two digits match the province's number, the same number that appears on vehicle plates, from 01 to 81. The remaining three digits narrow down the district and delivery area. A single code often covers a neighbourhood or part of one, so it does not point to an individual building.
Turkey also maintains a national address registry that gives each building and unit an official address record. Online services and e-commerce checkouts increasingly ask for the structured fields from this system, such as province, district, neighbourhood, street, outer door number and inner door number.
How addresses are written
A typical Turkish address runs from small to large: neighbourhood, street, building number, apartment, then postal code with district and province, for example Sample Mah. Example Sok. No: 5 D: 3, 00000 District/Province. Words like mahalle, cadde and sokak describe the neighbourhood, avenue and street. See the Turkish address format page for details.
Turkish uses special letters such as ç, ğ, ı, İ, ö, ş and ü. Dropping them in Latin-only systems is common but can change a name, so it is best to keep them when the form allows.
How UPCS codes work in Turkey
UPCS codes for Turkey begin with the prefix TR and look like TR-XXXX-XXXX, where each X is a letter or digit. Each code stands for a 3 m by 3 m cell on the map, so it identifies a precise point such as a building entrance or a shop door.
A UPCS code is not the official posta kodu. It is not issued by PTT or any government, and it does not replace the neighbourhood, street and number. Its purpose is to complement a standard address, which is useful where building numbers are hard to read or where several entrances exist.
