Argentina Postal Codes and Addresses Guide

How Argentina's four-digit postal codes and the longer CPA work, how Argentine addresses are written, and how a UPCS exact-location code fits in.

    Updated 14 October 2026 · 3 min read

Argentina has two postal code formats in use side by side. The older code has four digits. The newer Código Postal Argentino (CPA) wraps the same four digits with a letter at the start and three letters at the end, as in C1425ABC. The national postal operator is Correo Argentino.

    How the national system works

The four-digit code identifies a locality or a district within a city, and it is still the form most people know and write. The CPA, introduced to make sorting more precise, adds a leading letter that corresponds to the province (for example, C for the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires and B for the Province of Buenos Aires) and a final group of three letters that identifies a block face, meaning one side of a street segment. See Argentina postal code format for the full explanation.

    How addresses are written

An Argentine address puts the street name first, then the number, then floor and apartment, followed by the postal code, locality and province:

    Jane Doe
    Avenida Ejemplo 1234, Piso 5, Depto B
    C1425ABC Ciudad Ejemplo
    Provincia
    ARGENTINA

Street names are often dedicated to people or dates, and they carry the street type such as Calle, Avenida or Pasaje. More is in how to write an address in Argentina.

How UPCS codes work in Argentina

UPCS (Universal Post Code System) assigns a short code to an exact map point. In Argentina, the code starts with AR, then two blocks of letters and digits, as in AR-XXXX-XXXX (a placeholder). Each code stands for a 3 m by 3 m cell, and identical coordinates always return the same code.

A UPCS code is not an official postal code and is not issued by Correo Argentino or any government body. It does not replace the four-digit code or the CPA. It travels beside a regular address, to mark a gate, an entrance or a rural access that is hard to describe.

    Why both codes matter online

Online shops in Argentina often use the postal code to quote shipping, so entering the wrong one can change the price or delivery zone. Customers who know both forms should supply whichever the form asks for. Neither code identifies a single doorway, which is why a street, number, floor and apartment are still essential.

    Frequently asked questions

What do Argentine UPCS codes look like?

They start with the prefix AR followed by two blocks of letters and digits, as in AR-XXXX-XXXX. They are not official postal codes.
