How to write an Argentine address: street name and number order, floor and apartment notation, postal code placement, province and an example.

An Argentine address is written with the street name first and the number second, followed by floor and apartment if there is one, then the postal code, the locality and the province. It is in Spanish, and the street number is not separated from the name by a comma in everyday writing.

    Line order

    1. Recipient. Person or business.
    2. Street and number. Street type and name, then number, for example Avenida Ejemplo 1234.
    3. Floor and apartment. Piso and Depto, or the short form with a degree sign.
    4. Postal code and locality. The four-digit code or the CPA, then the locality or city.
    5. Province. In full or abbreviated.
    6. Country. Only for international mail.

    Street and number

Streets carry a type such as Calle, Avenida (Av.), Pasaje, Boulevard or Ruta (route), and most are named after historical persons, dates or places. In some cities, numbering follows the distance from the start of the street, so a high number tells you where along a long avenue the building stands. Where no number exists, s/n is used with a nearby cross street, written e/ (entre) between two streets.

    Floor and apartment

Apartment buildings are common in large cities. The floor is written as Piso followed by the number, and the apartment by Depto and a letter or number: Piso 5, Depto B. A compact version, 5° B, is also widely used. Ground floor is PB (planta baja). For houses in a shared lot, a house number or Casa and a letter may follow.

    Locality and province

In the metropolitan area of Buenos Aires, the locality and the province can differ from what is commonly said, since the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires is separate from the Province of Buenos Aires. Use the locality shown in official documents, and the province name in full when in doubt.

    Formatted example

    Jane Doe
    Avenida Ejemplo 1234, Piso 5, Depto B
    C1425ABC Ciudad Ejemplo
    Provincia
    ARGENTINA

The values are placeholders, not a real address.

    Adding an exact location

In large complexes, rural properties or streets with irregular numbers, a UPCS code in the form AR-XXXX-XXXX (placeholder) can mark the exact entrance. It complements the address and postal code and does not replace them. See the postal code format and the country overview.

    Frequently asked questions

How are floor and apartment written in Argentina?

S/n stands for sin número, meaning the property has no street number, so a nearby cross street or landmark is usually added.
