A UPCS code is a short code that stands for an exact location chosen on a map. UPCS stands for Universal Post Code System, and the service lives at upcs.io. The code is meant to accompany a normal address and make the precise spot easy to find and share.
What it looks like
A UPCS code has the form CC-XXXX-XXXX: a two-letter country prefix followed by two blocks of letters and digits, for example PK-1A2B-3C4D. The structure is explained in UPCS code format explained.
What it represents
Each code corresponds to a 3 m x 3 m grid cell. Choosing a point on the map generates the code of the cell that contains the point, and the same coordinates always give the same code. See what a 3 m x 3 m UPCS cell means.
How you use it
- Generate. Open the map on upcs.io, choose a location and the code is generated.
- Share. Copy the code or the link and send it to whoever needs it.
- Find. The receiver pastes the code in the search box at the top of the site, or adds it to the site address, for example
upcs.io/PK-1A2B-3C4D.
The lookup page shows the code, the country, the coordinates and latitude and longitude, and offers Open in Map, Get Directions, Share or Copy link, and Copy coordinates.
Who it is for
Anyone who needs to point to a precise place: households receiving deliveries, businesses sharing their entrance, and developers who collect delivery locations in online stores. For more on the generic idea, see what is a digital address.
What it is not
A UPCS code is not an official postal code, is not issued by any government and does not replace national postal systems. It is a complement: an exact-location code that can sit beside a normal address. See are UPCS codes official and UPCS code vs postal code.
Where it works
Codes are available for 25 countries. A point outside those countries returns an unsupported location error. See UPCS supported countries overview.
Accounts
Signing in uses a WhatsApp number and a one-time code. Signed-in users have an account dashboard and a list of their own postcodes, and there is a Featured locations page for browsing.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need an account to find a place from a UPCS code?
To look up a code you can paste it into the search box at upcs.io or add it to the site address. An account, which uses a WhatsApp number and a one-time code, is for the dashboard and saved postcodes.
