The authoritative place to find a Thai postal code is Thailand Post, which maintains the code list and provides a search by administrative division. You need the province, district and subdistrict of the address, and the search returns the five-digit code.
Ways to find the code
- Thailand Post's directory or search. Choose or type the province, then the district and subdistrict. This is the official source.
- Mail and bills. Utility bills, bank letters and earlier parcels carry the right code.
- The recipient or building office. Residents usually know their code. In condominiums and housing estates the juristic person or management office can confirm it.
- A local post office. Staff can tell you which code covers a lane or village.
How to verify
Check that the code has five digits and that its first two digits are consistent with the province you are writing. Next, check that the subdistrict and district in the directory result match your address. If the code appears under several subdistricts, that is normal, so use it only when your own subdistrict is on the list. Be aware that some subdistricts have more than one code, so use the one that matches the village or area.
If you are unsure
- Re-check the spelling of the subdistrict and district; transliteration differences are the most common cause of a failed search.
- Search from the Thai script name if the romanised name returns nothing.
- If two candidates remain, use the one from the most recent mail and write the village or soi clearly.
- Do not alter digits to make a form accept the entry.
An exact-location supplement
A postal code names an area, whereas many Thai addresses end in long lanes and large developments. A UPCS code can add an exact point. Open the UPCS map, place the pin on the gate and copy the TH-XXXX-XXXX code. It is unofficial, is not issued by Thailand Post and does not replace the postal code.
