Location Codes for Home Services and Repairs

How booking platforms and independent tradespeople can use exact location codes for plumbers, cleaners, electricians and similar home visits.

Home services are booked in minutes and delivered the same day. Plumbers, cleaners, electricians, locksmiths and handymen are matched to jobs by distance, and the platform or the tradesperson often only sees an address as a line of text. Once they set off, the question is whether they find the place at the first attempt.

    Two kinds of business

Marketplaces and booking platforms connect many providers to many customers. They need location data that is consistent across providers and easy to pass through an app. Independent tradespeople work from a phone and a notebook; they need something quick to type and easy to text.

    What the customer provides

At the point of booking, ask the customer to mark the spot. The code is saved with the job together with the written address. For flats, add a field for the unit number and any buzzer instructions. The provider sees both, which cuts out the typical "I am outside, which door is it?" call.

Why it matters to the business

    • Better quoting. Travel time estimates use actual positions.
    • Matching. Platforms can offer jobs to the nearest available provider using coordinates.
    • Fewer wasted trips. A provider who arrives at the wrong place loses a billable hour.
    • Repeat customers. A saved pin means rebooking takes seconds.

    Trust and safety

Many platforms deliberately show a rough area to providers before a booking is accepted, and the exact point after. A code fits this pattern: keep it hidden until confirmation, then reveal it. After the job ends, consider hiding it again to protect the customer.

    Limits

A code does not verify the customer or the provider, and it does not say whether the property is accessible, whether someone is home, or whether the job needs parking. It also relies on the customer picking the right spot, so display a clear map at zoom levels where the grid is visible.

    Reviewing off-target pins

Ask providers to flag jobs where the pin was off by more than a doorway. Those cases show whether customers need a clearer map, a zoom prompt or a short instruction at the moment they place the pin.

    Frequently asked questions

Should the customer share the code before or after booking?

Many platforms ask for it at booking so the provider can plan travel, and reveal it to the provider only once the job is confirmed.
