Pakistani addresses are written from the most specific detail to the broadest one: recipient, house, street, area, city, postal code. There is no single mandatory layout, so the goal is to make each line unambiguous and to include a phone number that couriers can call.

    Component order

    1. Recipient name, and a company name if relevant.
    2. House, plot or flat number, and building or floor if applicable.
    3. Street, lane or road. Many streets are known by number or by a local name.
    4. Sector, block, phase or housing society. In planned areas this is the most important part of the address, for example "Sector G-9" or "Block C" within a society.
    5. Area or neighbourhood and city.
    6. Postal code (five digits) and country.
    7. Landmark and phone number on their own lines.

    Language and spelling

Addresses are written in English, Urdu or a mix. Place names are often transliterated in several ways, so one area may appear with different spellings on different shops and maps. Pick the spelling that locals use and keep it consistent. If the recipient will be contacted by a courier who reads Urdu, adding the area name in Urdu script can help, but it is optional.

    Landmarks and informal descriptions

In many neighbourhoods, house numbers are not sequential or are repeated across lanes, so a nearby landmark is often what makes the address findable. Useful landmarks are permanent and well known: a mosque, a school, a petrol pump, a bank branch or a market. Phrases like "opposite" or "behind" a named building are common and accepted.

    Formatted example

    All values below are placeholders:

    Recipient Name
    House No. 00, Street 00
Sector / Block / Society Name
    Area Name, City Name
    Postal code: NNNNN
    Pakistan
    Landmark: near [well-known building]
    Phone: 03XX-XXXXXXX
    UPCS code: PK-XXXX-XXXX

The last line is optional and is not an official postal field. It lets the courier open the exact point on a map. You can create one on the UPCS map.

Check the digit rules on the Pakistan postal code format page, or read about common delivery problems in Pakistan to understand why the landmark and phone lines matter.

    Frequently asked questions

In what order should a Pakistan address be written?

Start with the recipient and house or plot number, then street, sector or block, area or society, city, postal code and country. Add a landmark line if the location is hard to find.

Should I write the address in Urdu or English?

English works for most courier and online-shop use. Urdu is common locally. Whichever you choose, spell area names the way local delivery staff recognise them.
