Pakistan Postal Codes and Addressing Guide
How postal codes and addresses work in Pakistan, from the five-digit code to landmark-based directions, and how a UPCS code adds an exact location.

Pakistan uses a five-digit postal code, managed by the national postal operator, Pakistan Post. The code narrows an address down to a city or a delivery area, but it does not identify a single house. In practice, addresses in Pakistan are a mix of house numbers, sector or block names, housing society names and well-known landmarks.
A UPCS code takes a different approach. It marks one exact point on the map, which is useful in areas where the written address alone can be ambiguous.
How the national postal system works
Mail in Pakistan is sorted by city and delivery area, and the five-digit postal code helps route it. Many people still write the city and area name clearly because they matter as much as the number to local sorting and delivery staff. Private courier companies handle a large share of parcels, and they usually rely on the written address plus a phone number to reach the recipient.
How addresses are usually written
A typical address starts with the house or plot number, followed by the street or lane, then the sector, block, phase or society, the city, and finally the postal code. Addresses are written in English or Urdu, and English transliteration of area names can vary from one source to another. Adding a nearby landmark, such as a mosque, school or market, is very common and genuinely useful to the person delivering.
How UPCS codes work in Pakistan
UPCS codes for Pakistan begin with the prefix PK, followed by two blocks of letters and digits: PK-XXXX-XXXX. Each code corresponds to a 3 m x 3 m grid cell, and the same coordinates always give the same code. A person chooses a point on the map at upcs.io and the code is generated.
A UPCS code is not an official postal code and is not issued by Pakistan Post or any government body. It is a complement: you keep the normal address and add the code so that anyone can open the exact location and get directions. If you want to look a code up, paste it into the search box on the UPCS map.

Frequently asked questions
Is a UPCS code the same as a Pakistan postal code?
No. The official postal code is a five-digit number used by the national postal service. A UPCS code, such as PK-XXXX-XXXX, is an extra code that points to an exact 3 m x 3 m spot on a map.
Do I still need to write the official postal code?
Yes. A UPCS code does not replace the postal code or the written address. It sits alongside them so a courier can find the exact entrance.
