The authoritative source for an Iranian postal code is Iran Post, the national postal operator. Since a code usually belongs to one building, you will need the detailed address, including the alley and plaque, before looking it up.
Gather the full address
Write down the province, city, main street, side street or alley and the plaque number. Because the code is tied to a building, the plaque matters. Searching with only the city or the street usually returns a range of possible codes rather than the one for your door.
Ways to find the code
- Operator lookup. Iran Post offers online and counter services that return a postal code from an address, or an address from a code. Use the operator's own services and avoid third-party sites that may hold outdated data.
- Post office branch. Staff can look up and confirm the code for a property.
- Existing documents. Property papers, utility bills, bank letters and previous parcel labels often include it.
- The sender or the landlord. For a rented unit, the owner may already know the code, and it may be assigned per unit in multi-unit buildings.
How to verify
- Confirm the code has exactly ten digits.
- Make sure there are no letters, hyphens or mixed digit sets.
- Check that the city and street shown by the lookup match your address.
- If the building has several units, check whether the code is for the building or for your unit.
