How to Find a Postal Code in Russia
Find and verify the correct six-digit postal index for a Russian address: use the national operator tools, check against a post office, avoid errors.

The authoritative source for a Russian postal index is Russian Post, the national operator. Because the index belongs to a delivery unit rather than a building, you need the full street address first and then match it to the index that serves it.
Start with the complete address
Before searching, write down the city or village, the street and the house number. Searching only by city name will often return many indexes, because large cities have one for each delivery unit. A precise street and house number reduces the options to one.
Where to look
- The operator's own tools. Russian Post provides an index search on its official website and in its services, where you can search by street and house or find the nearest post office. Use the site operated by the operator itself.
- A post office. Staff at any post office can tell you the index for an address and can also correct an incomplete one.
- Previous correspondence. An official letter, a bill or a parcel receipt addressed to the same location usually shows the right index.
- Online checkouts. Many Russian shops pre-fill the index after you enter the street, but you should still check it.
How to verify
- Confirm the index has exactly six digits and no letters or spaces.
- Confirm the region and city printed on the result match your address.
- Compare with an official document sent to that address, if available.
- If the index looks close to another town's, double check the settlement name, since neighbouring villages can be served by different offices.
If you are unsure
When the street is new or the settlement is small, results may vary between sources. Choose the index returned by the operator's tool or confirmed by a post office rather than copying one from a map or directory. If you cannot confirm it, write the address in full and add a note for the courier. You can also read the format explanation to be sure the number you have is structurally valid.
Adding a UPCS code
A UPCS code does not help you find an index, and it is not an index. What it can do is record the exact point of the entrance. If you have a map location, open the UPCS map, select the spot and share the RU-XXXX-XXXX code alongside your address. The delivery guide for Russia explains how couriers can use it, and the address format page shows where it fits in the written address.
Frequently asked questions
Who can confirm a Russian postal index?
Russian Post, the national postal operator, is the authoritative source. Its post offices and its own online tools can confirm the index for a given street and house.
What if the index on my parcel label is wrong?
Correct it before shipping, since an incorrect index can route the parcel to the wrong office. Check the full address against a post office or the operator's tools.
