Find the correct Vietnam postal code for a ward or city using the national postal operator's tools, and verify it before you ship.

The authoritative source for a Vietnam postal code is Vietnam Post, the national postal operator, which publishes the codes and provides lookup tools. Third-party lists exist but can be out of date, especially after administrative changes.

    Search by administrative area

Because the codes follow the administrative hierarchy, the lookup starts with the province or city and then narrows down. Pick the province or city, then the next level, and finally the ward or commune, following whatever levels the tool currently offers. The result is the six-digit postal code for that area. More than one locality can share a code, and a large area can be covered by more than one delivery area, so a single locality name may not always give one answer.

    Check against real mail

If the recipient has received mail at that address before, an envelope, a utility bill or a parcel label is the best confirmation. The code printed there has been used by a real sender and is the one the delivery network recognised.

Be careful with old and new names

Vietnam's administrative divisions have changed, with merges at province level and changes to the lower levels. If the address you hold contains a district or ward name that no longer appears in a lookup, it may have been merged or renamed. Try searching for the new name, or ask the recipient for the current wording. Do not combine the new name of an area with the old code without checking. This also affects how to write the address; see how to write a Vietnamese address.

    Verify the format

A valid Vietnamese code is exactly six digits with no letters or separators. A five-digit or seven-digit value, or one with a space, is not valid. The first digits also give a quick plausibility check: the code should be consistent with the province you expect. The structure is described in Vietnam postal code format explained.

    If you are still unsure

    • Ask the recipient to confirm the code from a recent document.
    • Contact the carrier or the postal operator, who can confirm how they route to the area.
    • For online orders, provide the complete written address and a phone number, since local couriers frequently call the recipient.

If the postal code is only a minor concern and the real difficulty is locating a house in a maze of alleys, an exact-location code can help. A UPCS code (prefix VN) points to a precise 3 m by 3 m cell on the map. It is not a postal code and is not issued by Vietnam Post, so it should be given in addition to the normal address.
